Me by Mechelle is a black woman-owned small business created by Alyssa Mechelle Johnson.             

"Growing up bi-racial with naturally curly hair and attending a predominantly white school was tough and I always felt as if I did not belong. This was mainly because my hair was not bone straight like my female classmate's. I soon started to embrace my natural curls more in high school, then became obsessed with all thing’s natural hair. This sparked the idea of wanting every young girl and boy in the world, and more-so every black girl and boy to take pride in their natural crown (their hair). I truly wanted everyone to love their natural hair, no matter the texture. I did not want any kid to have the difficult experience I had growing up." -Alyssa Mechelle Johnson

Me by Mechelle officially launched on January 16, 2022 and is dedicated to addressing the challenge of embracing and maintaining healthy, natural hair, particularly among individuals who have struggled with societal pressures to conform to conventional beauty standards. We aim to empower young people, especially those with curly and textured hair, to embrace their natural hair journey without feeling the need to conform or alter their appearance. We also serve customers with straight hair, ensuring inclusivity across all hair types and ethnicities. we offer an organic natural curly hair conditioner that deeply nourishes curls, while our satin-lined accessories (bucket hats, scrunchies, headscarves, and robes) protect hair from damage and preserve moisture. These products are uniquely designed to enhance the natural beauty of hair, promoting confidence and self-expression.
